Warehousing and Distribution

In the age of “next-day” shipping, warehousing and distribution facilities are being constructed in every corner of the country, closer to residential developments. The impact of noise produced by trucks and other distribution equipment need to be considered.  Cavanaugh Tocci has conducted sound studies on over 300 warehouse and distribution projects across the country. Our services for these studies include:

·         Pre and/or post - construction site sound monitoring.

·         Computer modelling of noise from trucks and other distribution equipment.

·         Local and statewide noise code evaluation.

·         Reports and presentations to be used in permitting submissions and hearings.

Some of these projects involved peer-review of work by other acoustic consultants.

Analysis & Noise Control Design

The figure below presents a typical noise estimation from a logistics facility to nearby residents. Several steps are involved in arriving at a figure as seen below. The analysis starts with gathering week-long sound levels from the site to establish a baseline at the site and property lines. We then analyze the data, establish design goals, review local and state noise regulations, and build a computer model of the site to design solutions. We build this model using design drawings, GIS data, and knowledge of noise sources from our experience on hundreds of similar projects. The design process progresses and we then estimate the new sound levels following the noise controls and provide information to our clients for next steps.
